Tricorn hat

Description

I had a few adventures making this one.  First, I had very little 100% wool, which was necessary for fullering (the technical term for deliberately felting something that was knit) so I used 2 colors, a dark slate blue and an cream.  Then, I over-dyed with kool-aid, and tossed in the washing machine to fuller it.

I did not like the colors once it was fullered, so I then spray painted it lightly with black paint to even out the tone.  If you have ever read that you can use automotive spray paint on fabric without stiffening the fabric, that is not true (I have a quilting book that says you can) it does stiffen the fabric, but since it is a hat, I am fine with that.

Added blue rayon oriental braid.  Sewed up the sides of the hat.

Technical bits - Pattern can be found on Knit Like a Pirate knitlikeapirate.com/projects/t… (free!) used size 13 circular needles and Martha Stewart Crafts Roving Wool in bicycle and cream.  If you want to see what it looked like prior to fullering, over-dying and spray paining I have a pic fresh off the needles on my ravelry page www.ravelry.com/projects/glori…

Edited 5/31/14, I was just not happy with any of the pictures I took of this hat, and I realized it was because it was incomplete, it needed feathers fortunately (since I am broke) I had feathers from an old hat project leftover, voila! NOW it is finished, updated picture. Still have the old without feathers pics over on my ravelry page, if you are really interested.
