Mokume Gane set

Description

Ok, so I was already in a rotten mood today, so instead of doing responsible things (read look for new job) I decide to do an irresponsible thing (read as play with clay.)

Ya know the dragon [link] that has been giving me trouble lately? Well anyway, I went to work on her and her lower jaw came off in my hand.

Now, no matter how upset you are, you don't want to squish 10 hours of work. Ok, I think it was actually the fact that if I pounded the dragon flat I would impale myself on the wire framework inside it that stopped me.

SO instead of beating on the dragon, or having the dragon beat on me, I played with scrap clay. There is a technique called Mokume Gane that I have been wanting to try for a while, so this is my first attempt.

Made a few more beads, from the same batch of scrap, and covered a tin with more of the Mokume Gane, but all those still need to be sanded. I like this one, I think I am keeping it for myself.

If you get the chance, try using metalic foils in your mokume. (Silver leaf would look great with those colors). I also sometimes use translucent clay in my layers, and it gives it more depth. However, it does require a lot of buffing to really make the layers "pop".
