Ok, another polymer clay egg, the roses and the red bands are canes. The off white is faux stone used for the rock rose egg and the blue is what was left from the bottom layer of that egg.

The red band is a kali cane in red green and purple, but unfortunately I can't figure out how to get the details in there, if I do, I will upload a new pic. If anyone has any hints on how to keep the red from overpowering the other colors, I am happy to hear them.

This one was done over a peahen egg.

Another entry into the crafted eastertide contest (all entries here [link] ) It didn't place, but my rose egg took second [link]

Edit 2/12/09 this egg has been changed a bit, the new version of it can be seen here [link]

I don't think the red is that overpowering. Well, it stands out, but it doesn't look out of place since those colors work together. Contrast is good in any piece.

You should submit your pastel egg to the contest if you haven't already!

The pastel egg was made a posted prior to the opening date for the contest, not eligable unfortunately.

Got a couple other filagree eggs that I am working on that might make the contest, although eggs is the theme for next months PCC contest, so I gotta keep one egg off DA to insure I can enter it there.

It's not that the red overwhelms the egg, it's that the red is the main color in a kalidiscope cane, that also has purple and green, in it, you can barely see the purple and green, if you squint, in the picture, but it is pretty clear in person.

Oohh... I didn't even notice it at all. Yeh. 0.o

That's a real bummer about the pastel egg. It's a winner for sure!

We'll see if any of the other's I am working on turn out so nice....of course, then it will probably go into the PCC contest, since clay supplies do alot more for me as an artist than DA membership.

I'm not sure of the ending dates/last days you can submit stuff for either contest, but maybe if the judging for PCC ends you'll still have time to submit a pic for this contest without breaking any PCC rules?

I don't think very highly of the PCC contests anyways... Their judging system is positively aweful. ANYONE can vote on any entrants. It's great that it remains anonymous until the very end but my entire family elected to vote for me when I entered one month, and I told them omg no I wouldn't want to do that it's cheating. They warned me well, they're going to do the same thing to you.

Lo' and behold, the best entries got last place, and though I don't believe in "dissing" anyone else's work, the few winners were for the most part not so good. One lady did an absolutely AMAZING sculpture of a little funny person in a garden carrying a satchel with moss and a dragon in it. I loved it so much that I even voted against myself for it. It obviously took days to make and was technically perfect and completely professional, and fit the theme very well, and it got like 5/6th place. I honestly thought I was at least going to place, because I made a relative masterwork to submit for it, but something that distinctly looked like it came from a push-mold placed above me.

For awhile I convinced myself I shouldn't act like I'm jealous but fact is, I did get upset. It wasn't because I lost. It's because I felt like I lost a popularity contest.

They really need to change how that works. If they don't, I won't be bothering anymore. It's too random.

Sorry for ranting but that's been bothering me for months, and it's about time I let someone know how I feel. :(

Good luck in it in any case!

Oh, I know the PCC ones are more popularity contests that anything else. You will also notice, that the people with a recognizeable style, who post alot on PCC win more often than others.

And I happily sent emails out to EVERYONE I know and asked them to vote for mine, and will do so again. Although last time I didn't win, so evidently, I don't know enough people.

I see you used the midnight rose cane on this one :).
And even though the purple and green aren't so noticeable in the kaleidoscope cane, it doesn't detract from the beauty of the egg.
How does the larger size egg effect it (other than more surface to work with). I've only ever done chicken eggs, even though I have the goose eggs stashed.
:iconglori305:
Actually, what I really liked wasn't the size difference so much as the thickness of the shell, I could put alot more pressure on without breaking.

I have two of them left, and keep saving them for something special....so far I haven't thought of something special to do with them.

That makes sense! I'll keep it in mind.
